Eleanor Jones

Owner & Operator, The Local Vinyl

Meet Eleanor Jones, she saw a need in her local community and dove right in to fill it, as the Owner and Operator of The Local Vinyl is Terre Haute Indiana. The Local Vinyl is an indie record store located in 12 Points selling new and used records. Eleanor's goal with the shop is to create an atmosphere for the Wabash Valley to collect, preserve and enjoy music through the medium of vinyl records. She strives to serve her customers with the products they seek at a price that is fair. Though she may have a small but mighty team they work closely with their clients to create an environment where everyone feels comfortable to shop, talk and sell vinyl.

When not working Eleanor enjoys gardening, both indoors and outdoors, and spending time with her husband and five dogs.

How did you get into your industry / What motivated you?

I felt my town was in need of a record store and figured I’d try to do it.

What is a day in the life like?

You never know who is going to walk in to your store.

What has been / is the most difficult part of your job?

Figuring out what people want and making sure we order enough.

What advice do you have for someone wanting to get into pursuing what you're doing?

Have enough capital to keep up with the growing demand.

Are you a vinyl collector yourself? What drew you to it?

Yes, but not on the level most store owners or even customers are. I have a small collection of about 250 albums. Mostly inspired by my parents collection and my music taste from high school and college.

Who has been influential to you and your growth as a professional in this industry?

No one. I haven’t gotten much help from the industry.

Anything else you’d like to add, if not tell us who you're listening to right now:

I love alternative rock and pop. Currently listening to a lot of Cale, Rainbow Kitten Surprise and Lana Del Rey.
