We love seeing more women at the helm of pressing plants. This week we met Farah the owner of Violet Vinyl a small record pressing plant specializing in artistic color pressing and low minimums out of Daytona Beach, Florida.  Violet Vinyl was created to make it easier for musicians and indie labels to create, record and independently distribute their work in a timely manner.  The website states: “We love music, and music is Magic! We believe vinyl records epitomize everything there is to love about music. By taking a fresh approach we’ve implemented more efficient manufacturing processes, as well as green initiatives to lower energy use and waste. We offer clients options to use more recycled goods in their products and we up-cycle our pressing scraps.“

When she’s not working on your latest project, Farah can be found surfing, thrifting, and knitting.

How did you get into your industry / What motivated you?

I’m a indie musician and a lot of my musician friends could not get pressings, so I naively decided to open a pressing plant to press records for indie artists.

What is a day in the life like?

Emails, lots of blueberry Red Bull, and long hours pressing records. Making magic happen!

In your opinion what has been your favorite / the coolest thing you’ve worked on?

We made a record that was clear with rainbow dots to look similar to confetti. Super cool.

What has been / is the most difficult part of your job?

Just getting open, and the boiler room.

What advice do you have for someone wanting to get into pursuing what you’re doing?

Honestly, as cheesy as it sounds just start. Even if it’s creating a mood board with your goals. Just start.

Are you a vinyl collector yourself? What drew you to it?

I’m a collector of obscure Persian, and French records.

What types of things are happening in your industry / with vinyl that you’re excited or worried about? i.e. innovation, or trends you’re seeing.

Who has been influential to you and your growth as a professional in this industry? 

Honestly, I’ve had a lot of pushback. Juergen from NEWBILT has helped me along the way.
