Episode 63: Guest Host Series: Building Community with Rainbow Records

Listen To This Episode - 48:59
We hope you're gearing up for RSD - lists in hand - to get out and support your local record stores this weekend. In the meantime, hop on the bus and head on down to Rainbow Records! In this episode we continue our guest host series, spotlighting voices from across the vinyl industry with returning guest host, Amanda Schutzman of All Media Supply bringing her firsthand perspective and experience working closely with indie record shops nationwide. This time, Amanda sits down with Melissa Forsythe, owner of Rainbow Records in Newark, Delaware—a vibrant indie shop that has been going strong for 47 years, known not only for its strong community roots, but also for its one-of-a-kind traveling record bus. Melissa’s journey into music started early, growing up alongside her dad selling bootleg tapes at conventions, and has evolved into a multifaceted career from record retail, to her nonprofit supporting artists and live music in the community. They dive into what it really takes to buy, run, and shape an independent record store into something uniquely your own, along with prepping for the chaos (and magic) of Record Store Day.  Produced by: Ray Blevins  Brought to You By: Women in Vinyl Founder Jenn D’Eugenio and Contributor Robyn Raymond  Check out: - Amanda’s Site: https://www.wearesmelly.com/ - Rainbow Records: https://rainbowrecordsde.com/ - Record Store Day List: https://recordstoreday.com/NewsItem/11535 - Women Owned Stores: https://womeninvinyl.com/resources/women-owned-record-stores Find the video at: https://www.youtube.com/@womeninvinyl/videos Grab a copy of our book 'Women in Vinyl, the Art of Making Vinyl'!
