Episode 65: Guest Host Series: From Archives to Dance Floors - Records, Representation & Legacy
Listen To This Episode - 36:48
On this episode of the Women in Vinyl Podcast, we’re introducing a new guest host, Ariel Loh a Grammy Award-winning producer and co-founder of the Trans Music Archive—an organization dedicated to preserving trans history and legacy by helping trans artists press their music on vinyl—sits down with Brooklyn-based artist, DJ, and designer Alana Jordan. Alana brings nearly two decades of experience as a vinyl DJ, using records to tell the story of dance music, nightlife, and rave culture through carefully curated sets.
Their conversation explores the power of records as cultural artifacts, tools for preservation, and vehicles for community building. Together, they discuss the significance of physical media in an increasingly digital world, the importance of documenting underrepresented stories, and how vinyl can serve as both an artistic medium and a historical record. The conversation also explores identity, representation, music communities, and the responsibility of preserving culture for future generations.
This episode will make you want to get a little witchy with your records, imagining the history, energy, and stories they've picked up through every turntable and every set of hands they've touched.
