Women in Vinyl

This week we are heading back to Bordentown New Jersey's pressing plant to meet two other members of the team, Candace Beres in Assembly Supervisor and Quality Control and Lynsey O'Brien the Human Resources Manager. IRP serves to sustainably manufacture the highest quality vinyl records with best-in-class customer service. Founded in 2015 with the vision to support and press records for independent labels, they've serviced the like of Alabama Shakes, Bad Religion, Bon Iver, Decendents, Elliott Smith, Fela Kuti, Iron Maiden, J Dilla, Radiohead, Ray Charles, and many more.

Today we get the chance to hear from , a kindred goth spirit, and fellow morning person. Andi is a DJ, producer, music journalist, and the boss of the party / label, , which promotes live and DJ events all over NYC. She is also an author of a book on goth and post-punk sub-culture and an avid long time record collector.

As the summer turns to autumn we start our journey into the fall season with "weird sisters", Deanna DiLandro and Madison Hetterly, Co-Founders of the indie label . Final Girl Records (f.k.a. Weird Sister Records) is an independent record label and collective based in Brooklyn, NY and Los Angeles, CA built to serve as a safer space for women, trans, and non binary people in creative industries to share their work. They are committed to being an anti-racist organization that encourages equity, diversity, and anti-racist actions in the music industry and to help amplify the voices of BIPOC artists + creators.

Karen Comer the co-owner of in Courtenay, BC, Canada does it all, from appraising, purchasing, and bookkeeping to social media and customer service. Read more about her day to day and journey to opening a record store.

Faith Ventrello is the owner of in Napa California, a record store, wine bar, cocktail lounge and restaurant which also houses a community radio station that she started 6 years ago. Faith and her team are locals, committed to being good neighbors with a love of their town, the lands that surround it and beyond. Folklore represents the intersection of the best in music, libations, and food, from people immersed in these worlds.

Rachel Gardner, is a musician and owner of the record shop in Edmonds Washington. Rachel plays with bands in her community, volunteers with booking festivals and writes a monthly music scene article for the local publication. Musicology is a small record shop selling new and used vinyl, that also has a small stage for performances to support local artists in the community, along with a dedicated selling local artist’s music and merch.

Today we are headed to the beautiful country of Italy, Bologna to be exact, to introduce you to , a vinyl cutting engineer working out of her family business doing and high quality audio transfers. Shortly after graduating with a degree in foreign language the vinyl field called her name, and here she is answering that call.

Design is less discussed but so important in how we consume our records. From how they were first marketed to home owners as furniture pieces, to design innovation with to the pieces we are able to share about in this feature today. Meet Debra Salyer the Co-founder and Chief Design Officer of . Debra leads design for all of their consoles alongside the rest of a team of skilled artisans and sound engineers.
